Al-Geblawi: Tunisian Construction Firms Must Pivot to Libya’s Private Sector
Tripoli – Ghalib Al-Qablawi, Director of the 5th Libya Construction Expo, stated that the absence of Tunisian companies from this edition is due to their failure to secure state contracts during previous participations, following the inauguration of Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh’s government.
Shifting Focus: Private Sector vs. State Contracts
Speaking on the radio program “Diwan Business,” Al-Qablawi urged Tunisian firms to form partnerships with the Libyan private sector rather than relying solely on government projects. He noted that many state-funded initiatives remain stalled because the development budget has not been released, forcing the current Libyan government to rely on an emergency budget.
Al-Qablawi emphasized that Libya’s private sector is highly developed and offers significant investment opportunities in the contracting and construction industries.
Logistical Challenges and Future Coordination
In a related context, Al-Qablawi confirmed that although the Sfax Chamber of Commerce had reserved a pavilion—similar to the previous session—it failed to attend or market this year’s event. However, he noted that future coordination is planned with the Center for Export Promotion (CEPEX) to prepare for the 2023 edition.
